Investment programme

As an Associate, you will start a career path with the aim of either becoming one of our Portfolio Managers or a Research Specialist. Your training will include:

  • Our global investment orientation programme, which starts in September 2010, includes external and internal training covering the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) syllabus, Fidelity’s investment process and your role as an analyst. The aim will be to complete level one of the CFA by December.
  • Experience gained through your various sector rotations.
  • A designated investment coach offering mentoring and support.
  • Support to attain the necessary professional qualifications.
  • Coaching on how to run company meetings and the essential skill of using your curiosity to delve deeper.
  • Exceptional access to some of the best investment professionals in the industry.

There are no set timeframes to become a Portfolio Manager or Research Specialist. It’s largely up to you and your ability to progress. You’ll experience at least three different sector rotations to broaden your investment knowledge and on average it takes six years before you start managing your own money.

European Sales & Marketing, Business Operations or Investment Management Operations programmes

Simply put, the aim of these programmes is to develop future leaders who can understand and drive forward the Fidelity business. So, over the course of your programme, you’ll gain broad business as well as industry awareness, an understanding of where we’re going (and how you might take us there in the future) – and where relevant you’ll enjoy a unique opportunity to use and develop your business language skills.

We are preparing you for a high-powered future role, so it makes sense for us to give you the very best exposure and experience, using on-the-job and technical training. Our programmes have been developed with this principle in mind. You’ll be working alongside some of the most respected people in the industry, learning from how they work, while developing your own individual skills through formal training.

Training during the programme has been carefully designed to offer the right balance between on-the-job experience and more structured development sessions through roles in our key businesses, group training, mentoring, technical training and networking events. You can expect:

  • A Graduate Induction course, which will cover the Introducton to Invesment syllabus as well as giving you a solid grounding in how we do business, what makes our approach so different and the complexities of our industry. You’ll also learn more about the world of financial services.
  • External coaching to assist you with making that transition onto the graduate scheme and the Fidelity culture.
  • Your first rotation will start to develop your commercial awareness, skills and expertise. You’ll add to your knowledge through a combination of on-the-job learning, work shadowing and classroom training, while adding to your personal skills.
  • The support you need to settle into your role and to help you progress.
  • Help and guidance on how to set objectives at the beginning of each rotation.
  • A performance appraisal with your manager during and at the end of each rotation that will help you to establish a personal development plan.
  • A senior business manager as a mentor to give you knowledgeable advice and guidance on any aspects of your work.
  • Sponsorship and support to enable you to gain the relevant industry qualifications, such as the Securities and Investment Institute Introduction to Investment Qualification, Investment Administration Qualification, Investment Management Certificate (IMC), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Qualification and Securities and Investment Institute Diploma.
  • Internal courses where we use our own experts as well as industry specialists to provide in-depth technical training.

All of this is designed to provide you with the necessary toolkit to enjoy a long, challenging and rewarding career at Fidelity.

While opportunities will be available throughout your career here, it’s up to you to take control of your own personal development. So ultimately, your success will be largely up to you.

You’ll experience the energy and excitement that comes from early responsibility and high visibility. In turn, that will enable you to contribute to our development in an environment that is constantly evolving. And in return, we'll contribute to yours.

In short, your career certainly won’t stand still here.
