Interview

The first round interview will be a competency interview. This will be carried out over the phone and will last between 30 to 45 minutes. The interview will focus on your motivation towards Fidelity and the programme you have applied to, your background, key skill sets and how you have demonstrated these. We may also ask you to provide examples on where you have demonstrated core competencies for the programme you have applied for. So it’s a good idea to make sure you reread the requirements for the programme you have applied to.

The interview will be with a business representative from the area you have applied for or a member of the Human Resources team.

Quick Hints & Tips

  • Make sure you print off a copy of your application form and refresh your memory on your answers to the questions. It might have been a number of weeks since you finished your form and you could be questioned on the examples you provided.
  • Do your research on our website as you will be asked questions on Fidelity and our business.
  • Read the financial press and be prepared to talk about topical news stories.
  • Prepare some examples you can provide to a variety of questions. However don't over prepare or your answers could sound too rehearsed.
  • Make sure you listen to the questions asked and you prepare some questions you would like to ask of us.
  • Most importantly, be yourself.

Following the interview we will let you know within a week if you have been successful in making it to the next stage of the process. You will receive full feedback on your interview if you are unsuccessful.

For many of our business areas you’ll then be required to take one or a series of online tests. These vary from numerical, logical reasoning, personality to language. These could be in conjunction with your telephone interview or before the assessment centre. For some business areas we do have a minimum score that you have to achieve before you can progress to the next stage. Therefore it is critical that you practise the tests first.
