Application

If you want to apply to one of our graduate programmes, or for a summer internship, you must apply through our online system.

Before you apply, it’s a good idea to do your research and ask yourself if you really want to work for an investment manager. And do you know what that means? If you're not sure what investment management involves, find out who our customers are, the services we offer, who the major players are in the market and why people actually use an investment manager in the first place.

Once you've decided that investment management is for you, you’ll need to decide which of our graduate programmes you want to apply to. We’re looking for people who are focused on a particular area of our business, so you’ll need to make a careful decision on which business area will suit you best. Check that you have the skill set we’re looking for - we’ll only accept one application from you per year, so it’s vitally important that you make the right choice. No subsequent applications will be accepted.

Don’t worry if you don’t have time to complete the application form in one go - you can save and return to it as many times as necessary. But do remember to keep your username and password safe and accessible only by you.

The application form contains some standard information about your background, but there are also a few free text questions that will require a little more time and thought. The one thing that makes an application stand out is a strong focus and true motivation towards the investment management industry and preferred role.

We’re looking for graduates with at least a 2:1 bachelors honours degree and are keen to encourage applications from ambitious and talented graduates from a wide range of universities. Therefore before completing the application make sure that you meet the minimum requirements for the role that you are applying for. This will save you a lot of time and effort in the long run.

Read the Application Form Hints and Tips

  • It sounds obvious, but the more effort you put into the open questions and differentiate yourself from the other applicants, the better chance you stand of being selected for the next stage.
  • Show us your interest in and passion for investment management and a genuine desire to work in your preferred role.
  • Demonstrate in-depth research into Fidelity.
  • If possible, show us how you’ve built up a strong network in our industry through previous experience, campus events and networking opportunities.
  • Go the extra mile to make your application stand out – for example, talk to people in the role you want to do, or find out a fact about us that isn’t on our website.
  • Ensure you keep your contact details correct and up-to-date. There’s no point spending time completing an application if we can't contact you.
  • Complete all the boxes – again, sounds obvious, but the more information you give us, the better.
  • Remember, we could question anything you put on your application form at interview, so make sure you can back up anything you include.
  • Treat each application individually - we appreciate that completing application forms can be time-consuming, but using 'set' answers doesn't do your application any justice.
  • Beware of copying and pasting, especially leaving the wrong company name in your answers.
  • Back up your answers with examples - if you think you’re a good team player, how have you demonstrated this?
  • Be concise, not too long-winded - more is not necessarily better.
  • Avoid jargon.
  • Spelling and grammar. If you make any spelling or grammatical mistakes in your application, we’ll assume you haven't taken time and don't really care.

We’ll email you to let you know when we’ve received your application and we’ll also email you to let you know if you’ve been successful. In fact, most of our communication will be by email, so please make sure you give us an email address you access regularly.

We’re anticipating a lot of applications and our recruitment team screen each application personally (rather than using an automated system). This means it may take us four to six weeks to get back to you. We screen applications on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier you apply, the quicker our response could be and the better chance you’ll have of getting an interview slot before they’re all filled.
